Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) Rapid Test – Mono IgM + EBV IgG VCA/EBNA

Rapid and differential diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis in acute and past phases

The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) rapid test combines two immunochromatographic tools to detect different stages of infection by this virus, which causes infectious mononucleosis. Using a small sample of blood, serum or plasma, these tests identify:

  • IgM heterophile antibodies (Mono Test): typical markers of acute active infection.
  • IgG antibodies to VCA and EBNA: associated with past, chronic or reactivated infection.

Both tests come in individual cassette format, are easy to interpret visually, require no additional equipment and provide reliable results in as little as 5 to 15 minutes. This combination allows a more accurate clinical approach from the first contact, especially in primary care, emergency or non-laboratory settings.

Why combine Mono IgM with EBV IgG VCA/EBNA?

R
High diagnostic accuracy
– Mono IgM: sensitivity 97.6% / specificity 97.8%
– EBV IgG VCA/EBNA: sensitivity 94.9% / specificity 96.3%.
R
Fast and clear results
– Mono IgM: within 5-10 minutes
– IgG VCA/EBNA: within 10-15 minutes
R

Sample versatility
Both tests can be used with whole blood, serum or plasma, facilitating their use in a variety of clinical settings, even without laboratory access.

Clinical applications of EBV rapid tests

Rapid diagnosis in primary care and emergency departments: Allows immediate evaluation of symptoms compatible with infectious mononucleosis, differentiating between active and past infection.
Complete clinical approach in children and adults: Orientative detection of IgM or IgG antibodies in school, university, sports or work contexts.
– Efficient screening in settings without laboratory: Useful in rural centers, mobile campaigns or clinics where conventional serology is not available. Efficient screening in non-laboratory settings: Useful in rural centers, mobile campaigns or clinics where conventional serology is not available.
Support in differential immunodiagnosis: Especially indicated to rule out or confirm recent EBV infections in patients with persistent symptoms or a history of immunosuppression.
